Executive Director, Color of Change

Rashad Robinson – For over a decade, he has helped to mobilize communities across the country to create more inclusive cultural and political institutions. Robinson serves as Executive Director of Color Of Change, the nation’s largest online civil rights organization. Under Robinson’s leadership, the organization has been at the forefront on issues ranging from fighting for justice for Trayvon Martin to battling attempts to suppress the Black vote – all the while utilizing the power of storytelling and the media to amplify the voices of the over 800,000 Black Americans and their allies that make up Color Of Change’s membership.

Robinson is a recognized expert on how popular culture impacts American attitudes and values. He has served as a thought leader, widely sought-out speaker and strategist on utilizing media to shift public opinion concerning civil rights issues and on holding political, corporate, and media figures and institutions accountable. He has appeared in hundreds of news stories, interviews, and political discussions through outlets including ABC, BET, CNN, MSNBC, OWN, The New York Times, Fast Company, and NPR. His writings have appeared in the New York Times, L.A. Times, Newsday and Huffington Post, among others. In 2010 and 2011, Robinson was selected as one of “The Root 100,” a list of emerging and influential African Americans under 45. He has previously held leadership roles at GLAAD, Right to Vote Campaign and FairVote.

While directing GLAAD’s program work, Robinson oversaw the launch the organization’s efforts to increase visibility of LGBT people and their families through the advertising media program and GLAAD Media Awards in Advertising. He served as the associate producer for the Awards and was the driving force behind the successful Media Strategy Division, which provides strategic media support, trainings and message development in order to influence public opinion on issues from Marriage Equality to the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Robinson currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Applied Research Center and ALL OUT, the Global Campaign for LGBT Equality.
